Georges d'Aubusson de la Feuillade (* 1609 ; † May 12, 1697 in Metz ) was a clergyman of the Catholic Church .

He was the uncle of Louis d'Aubusson, duc de La Feuillade , a high-ranking French military man. D'Aubusson was Archbishop of Embrun (1648) and then Bishop of Metz (1668), where he was allowed to continue the title of Archbishop as a personal title. From 1661 to 1664 he was in diplomatic service in Spain.

biography

Georges d'Aubusson de la Feuillade was born in 1609 to François Comte d'Aubusson and Elizabeth Brachet von Pérusse and was the brother of François III. Aubusson , a Marshal of the Duke of La Feuillade and uncle of Louis Aubusson , Duke of La Feuillade . He received a degree in theology and on June 21, 1649 he was appointed by Pope Innocent X during the papacy . appointed Archbishop of Embrun . On September 12, 1649 he was led by Louis-Henri de Pardaillon de Gondrin , then Archbishop of Sens , with Louis-Doni d'Attichy , then Bishop of Riez , and Félix Vialart de Herse , then Bishop of Chalons-sur-Marne , ordained a bishop. He served as Archbishop of Embrun until 1668 when he was appointed Abbot of Joyenval in Saint-Jean de Laon and Saint-Loup Abbey of Troyes .

In the Assembly of the Clergy (1651) he was a prominent voice for action against Protestants and he was ambassador to Spain from 1661 to 1664 and was the 91st Bishop of Metz .

In 1696 a report from his diocese recorded that the bishop had died and an audit resulted in thousands of francs missing. The report concludes that while the bishop was senile at the end of his life, his nephew, the Duke of Feuillalade, looted his suitcases worth more than £ 80,000.

Saint-Simon described the prelate as familiar, stingy, and easily joking about his own greed. He became senile three or four years before he died.
