Georgi Leontyevich Stadnikow , ( Russian Георгий Леонтьевич Стадников ; born January 5 jul. / 17th January  1880 greg. In Wjasowok , yekaterinoslav governorate , Russian empire ; † 18th February 1973 ) was a Soviet chemist ( organic chemistry , chemistry of coal and Peat, petrochemicals, geology).

Life

Stadnikow graduated from Lomonosov University in chemistry in 1904 . In 1913 he became a professor at the Novorossiysky University in Odessa . He was arrested by the Cheka for the first time in 1920 , but then made a career in the field of coal and peat chemistry. In 1922 he founded the Laboratory for Coal Chemistry (later the All-Union Institute for Mining and Natural Resources) and was at various Moscow institutes. In 1938 he was arrested again (for participation in a National Socialist organization in the Academy of Sciences) and imprisoned in Vorkuta until 1955 (where he soon headed a laboratory). When he was arrested in 1938, he was already known internationally. After his release he was at the Institute of Oil of the Academy of Sciences in Moscow.

He first researched peat, then coal, asphalt, oil shale and other areas of petrochemicals. In particular, he studied chemical processes in the formation of coal and oil, which he partly studied at Lake Balkhash (oil shale formation based on a special bituminous deposit on the lake).

After him and Nikolai Dmitrijewitsch Selinski (Zelinsky) the aminonitrile synthesis is named after Zelinsky and Stadnikov (addition of alkali cyanides to the carbonyl group of aldehydes, 1906).

In 1957 he published a book about other geologists arrested with him (Глинистые породы).
