Geranium oil
Geranium oil is an essential oil obtained by steam distillation of Pelargonium graveolens , a plant of the family of geraniaceae is obtained (Geraniaceae).
Important countries of origin are China , Egypt , the island of Réunion in addition to smaller growing areas in India and Israel .

The ingredients of geranium oil differ depending on the growing area. The main odor-determining components are the monoterpene compounds rose oxide , linalool , menthone / isomenthone , citronellol , geraniol , citronellyl formate and geranyl formate . As the lead compound for the distinction of geranium from China oil from Reunion Island and the oils of African provenance are the components of (-) - 6,9- Guajadien and 10- epi -γ- Eudesmol . The guajadiene isomer characterizes the so-called Bourbon type of the island of Réunion, the Eudesmol component is only contained in oil from African cultivation areas.
Physical Properties
It is a yellow-greenish to amber-colored liquid with a leafy-green, sweet-rosy smell with a distinct fruity-minty undertone. The density is 0.860-0.905 g / ml .
use
Geranium oil is mainly used to make perfumes . The world annual production is a few hundred tons.
