Gérard Plessers (born March 30, 1959 in Overpelt ) is a former Belgian football player and later coach .

Player career

Club career

Plessers began his career at Standard Liège in 1975. During this time he was able to win the Belgian championship title twice (1982, 1983), once the Belgian Cup (1981) and twice the Belgian Supercup (1981, 1983). In 1984 he moved to Germany for Hamburger SV . In Germany he won the German Cup with the Northern Lights in 1987. In 1988 he returned to Belgium and signed a contract with KRC Genk . After only one year he let his career at KV Kortrijk end for another three years .

National team career

Plessers took part in the 1980 European Championships in Italy , where he was runner-up with the team. At the 1982 World Cup in Spain , he was eliminated with the Belgians in the intermediate round as bottom group.

Coaching career

After his playing career, he coached KVV Overpelt-Fabriek , KV Turnhout in the late 1990s and KFC Dessel Sport in 2003 .
