Life

Gerd Müller studied medicine and zoology in Vienna and obtained his doctorate in both subjects. med. and Dr. phil. In 1979 he became assistant professor for anatomy at the University of Vienna . After a sabbatical at Dalhousie University and a year as a visiting scholar at Harvard University , he received his habilitation in anatomy and embryology in 1990 and in 2003 accepted a professorship for zoology at the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Vienna. In 2005 he founded the Department of Theoretical Biology there , which is dedicated to the quantitative analysis, modeling and theoretical integration of development processes.

Gerd Müller has published on key EvoDevo issues since 1989. His research interests focus on the origin of evolutionary innovation , the theoretical integration of EvoDevo, and advanced synthesis in evolutionary theory . His working group at the Department of Theoretical Biology at the University of Vienna deals, among other things, with the development of quantitative methods in developmental biology with the help of high-resolution micro-CT imaging.
