Gerd Grüner

Gerd Grüner (born January 23, 1955 in Waltersdorf ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and was mayor of the district town of Greiz from 2006 to 2018 .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1973 , Grüner did military service from 1973 to 1975. He then studied from 1975 to 1979 at the Leipzig Commercial College and graduated with a degree in economics . From 1979 to 1981 Grüner worked as a technical director at VEB Wholesale WtB Greiz. From 1981 to 1986 he worked for economics at VEB HDR Greiz. From 1986 to 1990 he was an employee in the LPG plant production in Markersdorf.

His political career began in 1990. Grüner, who had been a member of the SPD since January 1, 1990, was the 1st alderman of the Greiz district from 1990 to 1994 and the 1st alderman of the city of Greiz from 1994 to 2006. From 2006 he held the office of mayor of the city of Greiz. He was confirmed in office on April 22, 2012. He was sued by two NPD city councilors for refusing to shake hands at the inauguration. The administrative court in Gera dismissed the action on February 11, 2015, stating that there was no legal right to a handshake. In the mayoral election on April 15, 2018, he decided not to run again. The new mayor was Alexander Schulze , who was not party to the party .

Grüner is married and has two daughters.
