Gerd Hofmeister

Gerd Rolf Ernst Hofmeister (born March 1, 1938 in Berlin ) is a German mathematician .

Life

Hofmeister received his doctorate in 1966 with the dissertation "On a Problem by Frobenius" at the University of Bergen . From 1966 to 1968 he worked at the Institute for Advanced Study , a private research institute in Princeton, New Jersey and Albert Einstein 's last place of work. After his habilitation in 1968, he became a research assistant at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz , and in 1971 a scientific adviser and professor. In 1978 he was appointed full university professor.

It deals with additive number theory , for example, with the stamp issue ( Postage Stamp problem ).
