Gerd Konzag (born October 24, 1930 ) is a German sports psychologist , university professor and former basketball player .

Life

In 1953, Konzag belonged to the all-German national basketball team that took part in the European Championship in Moscow .

At club level, he won the championship title in the German Democratic Republic with the team from the HSG Wissenschaft HU Berlin in 1953 . After studying in Berlin , from October 1954, Konzag worked at the Martin Luther University in Halle  as a university lecturer and later as a professor of sports psychology . In 1965 he completed his doctoral thesis (topic: "Investigations into the attentional relationships in basketball and soccer") and in 1974 his PhD B (topic: "Attention and sport: a contribution to the theoretical foundation of sport psychology").

Together with his wife Irmgard , who also works as a university teacher , he was instrumental in ensuring that the future sports teachers at the University of Halle were trained in the sport of basketball. Together with his wife, Konzag wrote the textbooks "Exercise forms for sports games: a collection of exercises for basketball, football, handball, volleyball and preparatory games" (1975), "Training basketball while playing: the complete exercise system" (1991), "Practicing football while playing: the complete exercise system "(1991) and" Playing volleyball training: the complete exercise system "(1992).

In addition to the sport game (among other things in sport psychological contexts), the subject area “attention and sport”, the “objectification and evaluation of sporting achievements, performance requirements and learning processes”, the concept of perception in sport were the focus of his research.

From 1993 to 1995 he was the second chairman of the Working Group for Sport Psychology in Germany (ASP). He was still playing basketball at the age of 75. At the end of May 2019 he was awarded the ASP's Golden Badge of Honor.
