Gerd Mayen

Gerd Mayen (born February 3, 1929 in Melle ; † November 8, 2009 ) was a German actor and radio play speaker .

Life

He worked at the Wuppertal theaters for almost 36 years , had numerous leading roles and was one of the audience favorites. In the 1966/1967 season he was seen in Mother Courage and Her Children by Bertolt Brecht and in 1968/1969 in Arthur Aronymus by Hans Bauer as a partner of Rosel Zech . In 1970 he played in Wuppertal under the direction of Hans Neuenfels in the German-language premiere of the play Der Stern wird rot by the Irish playwright Sean O'Casey . In 1978 he appeared with the ensemble of the Wuppertaler Bühnen in the role of Ernst Werdenfels in the play Agnes Bernauer by Franz Xaver Kroetz at the Mülheimer Theatertage . In 1991 Mayen played the German intellectual and literary critic Werner Hermann in the play Else in Jerusalem ( Exile in Jerusalem ) by Motti Lerner at the Schauspielhaus Wuppertal together with Rena Liebenow .

In the 1960s Mayen was seen on German television in literary adaptations, in theater recordings or in television adaptations of plays. In 1960 he took on the role of the narrator in the play Unter dem Milchwald by Dylan Thomas . In 1968 he played under the direction of William Dieterle the Theseus in the comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare in a recording of the Bad Hersfeld Festival . In 1967 he was seen in the television series Am Tresen , an impromptu game in a suburban pub in Dortmund, in which the landlord and his daughter talk to the regulars about current and sometimes family topics.

Gerd Mayen also worked several times for Westdeutscher Rundfunk as a speaker for radio plays , often in detective radio plays . In 1967 he appeared in the radio play Entry Permit or A German Drives to Germany by Horst Mönnich . In 1969 he spoke to Milton Ashley in the radio play series I, the robot based on the short stories by Isaac Asimov . In 1974 he took part in the radio play Testflug based on a short story by Stanisław Lem . In 1990 he was part of the cast of the detective radio play The White Lotus by Rodney David Wingfield. He spoke for IGEL RECORDS the magician in Matti, Momme and the magic beans by Paul Maar . In 2007 he took over Attila in Das Dschungelbuch in a production of West German Radio .

He was also involved as a trade unionist and fought for the preservation of the Wuppertal theater. In the basement of his apartment there is an important archive of his theater career.
