Gerd Million

Gerd Million (born July 7, 1935 in Rehfeld , Soldin district ; † January 1, 2010 ) was a German sports reporter and football commentator .

biography

Million first completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk. From the mid-1950s onwards, in addition to his full-time work, he also worked as a freelancer for the SDR and the SWF . In 1963 Million shifted his professional focus entirely to sports journalism and accepted a position at SDR as a sports editor and reporter. In doing so, he achieved a high degree of recognition nationwide , primarily through his football reports in the ARD Bundesliga conference and the radio magazine "Heute im Stadion" produced by BR , in which he often reported live from the VfB Stuttgart games as a football commentator . From 1992 until his retirement at the end of 1997, Million also headed the Sport Radio department of the SDR.

He died on New Year's Day 2010 at the age of 74 and was buried a few days later in close family circles in Tübingen-Kilchberg .
