Gerd Plewig

Gerd Plewig FRCP (born May 12, 1939 in Langensalza ) is a German dermatologist and university professor.

Career

Plewig studied medicine in Hamburg , Graz and Kiel . After his time as a medical assistant , he went to Darby, Pennsylvania for a year . On November 18, 1965, Plewig received his doctorate in Kiel . In 1967 Plewig received his license to practice medicine and then went back to the University of Pennsylvania as a post-doctoral student . In 1969 he went back to Germany. At the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU) he received his training as a specialist in dermatology from Otto Braun-Falco . In 1972 he was at LMU on the subject of acne vulgaris, and acne-like disease habilitation . In 1982 Plewig took over the chair for dermatology and venereology at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . On October 1, 1991, he succeeded Otto Braun-Falco on the chair of dermatology at the LMU medical faculty. On April 30, 2006, Plewig retired . His successor at LMU was Thomas Ruzicka .

From 1982 to 1983 Plewig was President of the European Society for Dermatological Research and from 1998 to 2000 President of the German Dermatological Academy. He received the Kurt Wolff Prize in 1981. On May 1, 1997, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians London (FRCP). On April 27, 2002 he received an honorary doctorate from the Charles University in Prague and on April 29, 2005 an honorary doctorate from the University of Wroclaw . On September 19, 2007, Plewig also received an honorary doctorate from the Comenius University in Bratislava .

Plewig is the author and co-author of over 500 scientific articles, over 100 book chapters and around 25 monographs .
