Gerd Rahstorfer (born July 21, 1979 in Wels , Upper Austria) is an Austrian trumpeter and composer.

Career

From the age of eleven, Rahstorfer received trumpet lessons. At the age of 17 he studied jazz and popular music at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz . In 2001 he studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He was a trumpeter in the Upper Austrian Jazz Orchestra , Parov Stelar Band, Jazzodrom, Hot Pants Road Club's Grand Funk Orchestra, Düsenfried & the Stuffgivers, Maxi Blaha & Band, Radio Superfly Orchestra, The Vinylizers, Jazzwa. He had engagements at the Landestheater Linz, Musiktheater Linz, Linzer Klangwolke, Landestheater Salzburg and at the Salzburg Festival. In 2002 he was engaged by the European Youth Jazz Orchestra. He has performed with Randy Brecker , Bobby Shew , Michael Gibbs , Tony Momrelle , Rosie Brown , Hubert Tubbs , James Morrison , Vince Mendoza , among others .

Through the Parov Stelar Band & the Parov Stelar Trio (member from 2012 to 2014) he is also known under the stage name Jerry Di Monza. At the Amadeus Award 2013 Parov Stelar was nominated in three categories and received the trophies for the “Album of the Year” The Princess as a triple winner and was awarded with the musicians of his band as Best Live Act and in the Best Electronic / Dance category . Another Amadeus Award for Best Live Act followed in 2014.

From 2009 to 2010 he was a lecturer for jazz trumpet & ensemble at the private conservatory Vienna Music Institute (VMI). In 2011 he taught jazz trumpet at the Carinthian State Conservatory. Since 2011 teaching at the Oö Landesmusikschulwerk in the Landesmusikschulen Puchenau, Neuhofen ad Krems and Kirchdorf ad Krems.

In 2009 he produced the jazzodrome album "Places & Spaces" together with saxophonist Andreas See, followed in 2015 by the jazzodrome album "Another World", published by Universal Music / Verve.
