Gerd Jumpe

Gerd Springe (* 1935 in Hamburg ) is a German industrial manager. He was CEO of the Alusuisse Lonza Group.

Life

Gerd Springe grew up in Wasserburg on Lake Constance together with young people from France and the Maghreb ; his mother founded a Franco-German school home in 1949. Later he volunteered on the board of the non-profit society for the promotion of Franco-German school and youth meetings and converted the home into a non-profit association in 1973. To this day, Franco-German youth encounters take place there all year round.

After graduating from high school in Lindau , he studied physics in Munich; he was then a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Metallurgy in Stuttgart and in 1966 with a thesis on the stress corrosion cracking sensitivity of stainless steels at the Technical University of Stuttgart to Dr. rer. nat. PhD . From 1966 he worked as a development engineer at Alusingen GmbH in Singen . He became a co-owner of two patents.

Gerd Springe became CEO of Alusuisse AG in Sierre in Valais , where he was the first non-Swiss to take over the management of the main plant. Later he was responsible for a joint venture of the group in Saudi Arabia , where he won an award from the King of Saudi Arabia for the best joint venture project. He became CEO of Alusuisse Lonza GmbH , Singen, and six years later headed the entire German group as the holding manager of the Swiss Alusuisse Lonza Group.

In 1997 he received the "BFA - Best Factory Award" from the then Federal Minister of Economics, Günter Rexrodt, as the first prize in a bench-marking competition.

Gerd Springe is married, has a son and a daughter and three granddaughters.

Act

Gerd Springe was Vice President of the General Association of the Aluminum Industry (GDA), where he supported a solar cooker program for the Third World with churches and aid organizations well beyond his retirement. He was also a board member of the German-Swiss Chamber of Commerce Hochrhein-Bodensee and a board member of the metal industry association.

He made a name for himself with the historical analysis of the situation of forced laborers in southern Baden during the Nazi regime and invited former forced laborers from France to the factory in Singen.

He is co-founder of the "International Packaging Institute" (IPI) in Schaffhausen, a cooperation to promote professions in the packaging industry through the Konstanz University of Applied Sciences (today: HWTG Konstanz), the Stuttgart Media University and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences Winterthur .

In 2000 he founded the Bodensee cluster initiative as part of the Bodensee Location Marketing GmbH, which oversees six transnational future clusters: environmental technology, packaging technology, BioLago, CyberLago, aerospace technology and the food industry. From 2004 to 2010 Gerd Springe was President of the University Society of the University of Konstanz . Since then he has been Honorary President of the University Society with voting rights. He is the initiator of the University of Konstanz's Nano Prize for outstanding nanotechnology researchers.

In 2007 he was awarded the Cross of Merit on the ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his services to the common good of the region and the country, for promoting the economy, education and science as well as for understanding Germany with its neighboring countries . The city of Singen awarded him the Citizen's Medal in 2008 and the City of Singen's Ring of Honor in 2015 for his exceptional voluntary work in the economic and social fields.
