Gerda Uhthoff

Gerda Uhthoff (born August 2, 1896 in Bützow , † October 21, 1988 in Schwerin ) was a German writer .

Life

Uhthoff's father was a bailiff in the domain administration and land rent master. She lived in Schwerin since the early 1930s. Her poetic work did not begin until 1940, initially with High German poems , later she switched to poetry in Low German. A part was published in 1964 in the volume Leiw 'Plattdütsch . Maschin is dor was recited by Helga Gunkel for the record . Otherwise Uhthoff published in newspapers (preferably the Norddeutsche Zeitung in Schwerin), magazines , anthologies and calendars .

The poet was married to a doctor; her sons Klaus and Dietrich died in World War II . This experience influenced her poetic work and worldview. As a pacifist, she had an intensive exchange of ideas with Adam Scharrer after 1945 .

In 1953 Uhthoff became a member of the GDR Writers' Association in the Schwerin district.
