Gerhard Goldbaum (born November 26, 1903 in Kulmsee , West Prussia , † probably in March 1944 in Auschwitz concentration camp ) was a German sound engineer .

Life

Little is known about Goldbaum's career. Since he had a doctorate , he must have completed a university degree (presumably in engineering ). Right at the beginning of the sound film age in Germany (1929), Goldbaum was hired by the UFA as its chief sound engineer. In this role he oversaw some of the central productions of this largest film company, including " The Last Company ", " Hocus Pocus ", " The Man Who Committed the Murder ", " Me by Day and You by Night " and " Me and the Empress " .

As a Jew, Gerhard Goldbaum was immediately dismissed by the UFA in 1933, and in the following three years the West Prussian traveled from obligation to obligation all over Europe (Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands) and to Palestine. He finally settled in Holland, but after 1936 no longer found the opportunity to work as a sound engineer for a film. Goldbaum was arrested by German authorities on June 20, 1943 in Amsterdam and deported to Auschwitz, where he arrived on March 25, 1944. He was presumably gassed there shortly after his arrival.
