Gerhard Hafner OSB (born October 19, 1964 in Trieben ) is a Benedictine and 68th abbot of the Admont Benedictine Abbey .

Life

Gerhard Hafner grew up in Trieben in the Graz-Seckau diocese . After studying theology in Graz he received on 1 July 1990 in Graz Cathedral , the ordination . He entered the Benedictine Abbey of Admont with his clothing on November 29, 1994, where he made his simple profession on November 30, 1995 and his solemn profession on April 11, 1999 .

From 1990 to 1994 he was chaplain in Schladming , 1994–1995 a novice and then until 2012 pastor of Hall . Since 1996 he has held the post of pastor of Admont and the church rector of the abbey church. From 2000 to 2015 he was dean of the Admont dean's office , and from 2008 to 2016 he was prior of the Admont Benedictine monastery.

Under the chairmanship of the Abbot President of the Austrian Benedictine Congregation Christian Haidinger , Hafner was elected 68th Abbot of the Admont Benedictine Abbey on January 25, 2017. He took up this office on March 17, 2017, the seventieth birthday of his predecessor Abbot Bruno Hubl . His benediction took place on April 23, 2017 in the Admont collegiate church .
