Location description

The parish church of the Holy Cross in Hall is located on a hill above the village of Hall, surrounded by a walled cemetery .

history

A church was built in Hall as early as the second half of the 11th century, probably shortly after the Admont Benedictine Abbey was founded (1074). This first church was consecrated in 1095 by the Salzburg Archbishop Thiemo . This early construction of a church in Hall is related to the already existing infrastructure for salt mining , which also gave the place its name. The first church in Hall was probably consecrated to the Holy Cross and remained a branch of the large mother parish of St. Amandus in Admont . Since then, Fathers of Admont Abbey have provided pastoral care in Hall, even though services were only celebrated on Fridays until the early 17th century (these Friday services have survived to this day). Regular mass celebrations on Sundays and holidays are only documented from 1675.

Church interior around 1950

The Holy Cross Church has been subjected to a wide variety of renovation and reconstruction work in modern times. The work carried out in the first half of the 18th century, which gave the church its current form, was decisive here. At the beginning of the 20th century, the baroque tabernacle structure ( Veit Königer , 1776) was removed from the parish church of St. Bartholomäus transferred to Hall in Landl . A little later, the matching baroque monstrance was acquired .

In the course of renovation work inside (1984), Secco paintings from the 18th century were discovered on the altar wall , which could be exposed. In 1995 the 900th anniversary of the church in Hall was celebrated. In 2013, the interior of the church was painted and partially redesigned. At the same time, the church tower received a new wooden shingle roof and a fourth bell; the tower cross was also renewed. In 2014 the entire exterior of the church was finally renovated. Since 2015 the parish Hall near Admont has formed a parish association with the parishes Frauenberg an der Enns and Ardning .

Pilgrimages

Over the centuries , the Haller Heilig Kreuz-Kirche has been equipped with relics that relate to the suffering and death of Jesus and that have become the destination of pilgrims and pilgrims . The two large reliquary shrines at the high altar with two touch relics (lance and nail) are worth mentioning . Also a monstrance with a particle from the cross of Jesus . This was given to the Haller church by Count Leonhard Moggau in 1703 and set in a monstrance (from the Göss monastery ).

Church interior today

Large pilgrimages to Hall are documented in the Baroque period : Gaishorn am See , Sankt Gallen , Weng im Gesäuse and Admont . Regional pilgrimages come to Hall to this day.

architecture

The exterior of the rather unadorned church is crowned by a ridge turret with a baroque hood (shingle roof and tower cross renewed in 2013). Inside, the spaciousness is surprising - a light, four-bay nave and a single-bay choir with a straight end. The church vault with stucco fields dates from the first half of the 18th century and was painted in the original colors of the Baroque period during the last renovations .

Furnishing

A baroque , gilded tabernacle structure with angels and reliquaries by Veit Königer (1776), transferred in 1908 from the Landl parish church, serves as the high altar . Above it a crucifixion group by Josef Stammel (1750). On the altar wall, Secco paintings from the 18th century were uncovered in 1984 - supplemented by the coats of arms of the abbots of Admont who served as parish vicars in Hall, with two guardian angel statues to the side (1707).

There are numerous baroque paintings in the church, including the two former side altar paintings and their upper paintings (north wall: St. Benedict , above St. Florian; south wall: St. Dominic, above St. John Nepomuk), as well as four pictures of the Latin church teachers : Gregory, Ambrosius, Augustine and Jerome.

There is also a statue of the Madonna and Child (copy of a Gothic sculpture) between two adoring angels (19th century) and a statue of the Scourged Savior on the south wall of the nave (18th century).

The Stations of the Cross on the walls of the nave by Richard Kühlwein (Regensburg, 1910).
