Gerhard Hartmann (theologian)

Gerhard Hartmann (born June 21, 1945 in Linz ) is an Austrian Roman Catholic church historian .

Life

Hartmann studied after attending a Viennese high school theology, history and law in Vienna. During his studies in 1965 he became a member of the KAV Bajuvaria Vienna in the ÖCV . After graduating, he worked as a university assistant and for a short time as a high school teacher.

From 1970 to 1999 he was employed by the printing and publishing house Styria and was its representative in Vienna. From 1977 he worked in the historical editing department in the Graz publishing headquarters and from 1982 was head of the Cologne branch. From 2000 he was managing director of Lahn-Verlag GmbH in Kevelaer , as well as in the publishing management at Butzon & Bercker .

In 1990 he qualified as a professor for modern church history with a special focus on contemporary church history at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the Karl-Franzens-University in Graz. As a private lecturer , he taught modern church history at the University of Graz . He has published numerous publications on church history, religion and spirituality.

Hartmann worked as a student historian. From 1976 to 1981 he was head of the ÖCV's educational academy, after having been instrumental in its founding in 1970/71.
