Gerhard Kempter

Gerhard Kempter (born August 17, 1931 in Freiberg , Saxony ; † March 2011 ) was a German chemist and university professor .

Life

Gerhard Kempter studied chemistry at the University of Leipzig from 1950 . In 1959 he received his doctorate in Leipzig and completed his habilitation in 1964. A year later he became professor and institute director for organic chemistry at the "Karl Liebknecht" college of education in Potsdam . When the University of Potsdam was founded in 1990, he became Vice Rector and until 1995 he played a decisive role in its development.

In 2000 Kempter retired , but continued to work actively at his institute for several years.

The GDR honored him in 1987 as Honored University Professor of the GDR . Potsdam University made him an honorary senator for his services .
