Gerhard Kisser (born October 2, 1941 in Vienna ) is an Austrian graphic designer, curator and founder of the Ensemble Gerersdorf open-air museum .

Career

Kisser was born in Vienna as the eldest son of a doctor. From 1957 to 1962 he received an apprenticeship as a graphic designer at the Höhere Graphische Bundeslehr- und Versuchsanstalt in Vienna, master class, with a diploma. From 1960 to 1961, Kisser took one semester as a guest student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna (evening act with Herbert Böckl , graphics with G. Matejka-Felden ). 1962 followed a one-semester guest study at the art academy in Cairo. Kisser worked as a freelance commercial graphic artist from 1963 to 1995. In 1965 he started working as a freelancer in the working group for commercial graphics, the Atelier Gamma , Vienna's partner from 1969. From 1989 to 1995 he was the managing partner of the studio that was converted to Gamma GmbH with up to ten employees. After his takeover by Saatchi & Saatchi , he left the advertising industry and worked from 1996 to 2014 as curator of the art collections of the musical string producer and patron Peter Infeld in Vienna and organized numerous exhibitions at home and abroad.

As a 30-year-old, Kisser came to southern Burgenland for the first time looking for a weekend house. In 1972 the property with the last thatched house in Gerersdorf was purchased. In 1973 the first building was transferred to Gerersdorf. The private weekend domicile became the "Ensemble Gerersdorf". The ensemble, then consisting of six buildings, was presented to the public in 1976 with a first art exhibition. In the following decades it developed into the largest open-air museum in southern Burgenland and an important cultural center in the region. Gerhard Kisser has lived permanently in Gerersdorf since 2014, where he not only devotes himself to the museum, but also works as an artist.
