Gerhard Lochmann

Gerhard Lochmann (born October 1, 1935 in Hartmannsdorf (near Chemnitz) ; † August 4, 2013 ) was a military doctor and officer in the National People's Army (NVA) of the German Democratic Republic . He was major general and from 1970 to 1989 head of the surgical clinic of the central hospital of the NVA in Bad Saarow .

Life

Lochmann, son of a bricklayer, joined the Kasernierte Volkspolizei (KVP) on September 1, 1954 after attending school with a high school diploma . He studied medicine at the University of Leipzig from 1954 to 1956 and became a member of the SED in 1956 . From 1956 to 1959 he was an officer auditor at the Military Medical Section of the University of Greifswald . From 1959 to 1960 Lochmann was a compulsory assistant there. Subsequently, he was platoon leader in the Division Medical Point (DMP) of the 8th motorized rifle division . From 1962 to 1965 he was an assistant doctor at the surgical clinic in the central hospital of the NVA in Bad Saarow. There he was promoted to head of the specialist surgery clinic in 1966 and held this position until 1969. From 1970 until his discharge on November 30, 1989, he was head of the surgical clinic in Bad Saarow. On October 7, 1979, he was appointed major general in this position . From 1987 to September 12, 1990 he was a member of the Presidium of the Society for Military Medicine of the GDR and head of the field surgery working group.

Lochmann died at the age of 77 and was buried in the Saarow-Pieskow forest cemetery in Bad Saarow.
