Gerhard Melcher (born April 22, 1965 ) is a German physician and former freestyle skier in the aerials (jumping) discipline.

Gerhard Melcher was active for TSV 1880 Wasserburg am Inn and started his sport at the age of 22. A year later, in 1988, he was promoted to the German national team, to which he belonged until 2002. In December 1988 he made his debut in the World Cup in Tignes and was 32nd. In December 1994 he reached his first top ten placement in Piancavallo in tenth place, a total of six times the top ten. Once he was able to reach the podium as third place in Meiringen in March 1998. In Lake Placid , Melcher was 15th of the World Championships in 1991, 11th in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee , 20th in 1997 in Iizuna Kogen and 28th in 2001 in Whistler . Participation in the 1998 Winter Olympics , the German champion from 1994 to 2002 just missed his appeal for clemency a nomination to the National Olympic Committee of Germany was rejected. Even four years later he failed similarly short of the Olympic standard for Salt Lake City . In 2002 he ended his career.

After Melcher graduated from secondary school, he trained as a mechanic for apparatus construction in Moosach and then worked in this profession for a company in aircraft construction for several years. In 1990 he passed his Abitur at the technical vocational school in Freimann and then studied mechanical engineering until 1995, graduating with a degree in engineering. Because of its many own injuries, he became interested even for medicine to encourage his team doctor and was in 1996 the last time performed medical tests . In 2004 he passed the 3rd state examination in Munich and then began his specialist training as an orthopedic surgeon at a state hospital in Phuket . Even as a student, he had connections to Thailand, where he completed his first internship in 2001 . He completed his practical year at the University Hospital in Salt Lake City. He was on the island of Phuket on December 26th when the devastating tsunami struck Southeast Asia. After that he was one of the doctors who provided emergency care for the many injured.
