Gerhard Mumelter

Gerhard Mumelter (* 1947 in Bozen , South Tyrol ) is a South Tyrolean journalist and author.

Life

Gerhard Mumelter was a teacher and innkeeper and currently lives in Rome as a freelance journalist. He reports for ORF , Deutsche Welle , the Süddeutsche Zeitung and Der Standard .

With his anthology New Literature from South Tyrol , he brought together contemporary authors from South Tyrol for the first time after 1945 and helped South Tyrolean literature to gain self-confidence and identity as an independent literature. In his texts in the cultural magazine sturzfluege , which he co-founded , he tried to bring up for discussion the previously taboo topics of option in South Tyrol , bombing nights and collaboration in South Tyrol , by combining fiction and journalism .
