Gerhard Nourney

Gerhard Nourney (born December 12, 1943 in Prussian Stargard ) is a former German diplomat .

Life

The study of law at the universities of Munich , Lausanne and Bonn he joined with the promotion of Dr. iur. from. After joining the Foreign Service in 1972, he was employed at the Consulate General in Edinburgh (as an attaché) and in the Foreign Office (in the basic department of the Personnel Department). In 1976 Gerhard Nourney became the ambassador's permanent representative in Uganda . Three years later he became cultural attaché and head of the legal and consular departments at the embassy in Colombia . In 1982 he became a consultant for fundamental questions of development policy in the economic department of the Foreign Office. 1985 to 1988 Nourney was deputy head of the political department at the German embassy in France . In 1988 he worked in the Department for Disarmament and Arms Control and later in the Personnel Department of the Foreign Office.

In 1991 Nourney became Permanent Representative to the Ambassador and Head of Political Affairs at the Embassy in Greece. In 1996 he then became head of the Western Europe Division in the Political Department of the Federal Foreign Office. In 1999 he became envoy and head of the political department at the embassy in Turkey. From 2002 to July 2005, Nourney was ambassador and head of the Federal Foreign Office's training and further education center. From 2005 until his retirement in 2008, he headed the German embassy in Copenhagen ( Denmark ).
