Christoph Jessen

Johann Christoph Jessen (born August 31, 1946 in Kiel ) is a German diplomat . From 2004 to 2007 he was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Belgium and from 2008 to 2011 Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark .

Career

He completed his law studies with a doctorate in law. iur. at the Institute for International Law at the University of Kiel . After joining the Foreign Service in 1975, he was employed in the Foreign Office (office of the then Minister of State Klaus von Dohnanyi ), at the embassy in the Philippines (as head of the press, cultural, legal and consular departments), at the embassy in Romania (as head of the economic department), in the Foreign Office (in the Department for International Raw Materials Policy), at the CSCE Conference in Vienna and again in the Foreign Office (Department for North-South Policy). From 1992 to 1996 he headed the office of the then Justice, Federal and European Minister of Brandenburg , Hans-Otto Bräutigam . He then returned to the Federal Foreign Office, where he was initially head of the EU policy department before becoming ministerial director and head of the Europe 2 subdivision (international relations) in 1999 . In 2002 Jessen initially became ambassador and representative for EU expansion. From 2003 to 2004 ambassador and representative for bilateral relations with the EU member states. He was then Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Brussels (Belgium) until 2007 , then from 2008 to 2011 Ambassador in Copenhagen (Denmark), where he was replaced by Michael Zenner on July 1, 2011 .

Since September 2011, Jessen has acted as spokesman for the “Dialog Forum Fixed Fehmarnbelt Link ” to discuss a fixed Fehmarnbelt link between Denmark and Germany.
