Hans Otto groom
Hans Otto Bräutigam (born February 6, 1931 in Völklingen ) is a former German diplomat and non-party politician .
Life
After graduating from high school in Meschede in 1950, Bräutigam studied law and political science at the universities of Munich and Bonn from 1951 to 1954 , at the Sorbonne in Paris from 1956 to 1958 and at the Harvard Law School in Cambridge (Massachusetts) . In 1960 he received his PhD from the University of Bonn. jur. PhD . In 1961 he passed the second state examination in Stuttgart .
From 1962 he worked in the Foreign Office . As a legation secretary , he worked from 1964 to 1966 in the office of then Foreign Minister Gerhard Schröder , then for three years in London , where he observed British overseas policy. From April 1969 he was part of the Department for Germany and Berlin Politics in the Foreign Ministry under Günther van Well . He later worked in the Federal Chancellery and from 1982 to 1989 was State Secretary and Head of the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the GDR in East Berlin .
After a short time as the German UN Ambassador in New York City (1989/1990) Manfred Stolpe brought him to Brandenburg as Minister for Justice, Federal and European Affairs . He held this office until 1999. With an interruption of one year, he was chairman or on the board of the Remembrance, Responsibility and Future Foundation from 2000 to 2006 .
In 2001, the groom was awarded the Great Cross of Merit with Star of the Federal Republic of Germany.
He is the nephew of the diplomat and lawyer Otto Bräutigam (1895–1992).
Bridegroom lives in Berlin and is married.
