Günther van Well

Günther van Well (born October 15, 1922 in Osterath ; † August 14, 1993 in Bonn ) was a German diplomat and State Secretary in the Foreign Office (1977 to 1981).

As ministerial director and ministerial director in the Foreign Office, he was involved in drawing up rapprochement with the GDR and the four-power agreement in the early 1970s . As acting State Secretary, he was also appointed by the then Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher as his personal representative for disaster prevention.

Following his work as State Secretary, van Well was Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations . He then served as the German ambassador to Washington, DC from 1984 to 1987

As ambassador a. D., as a participant in the “Bergedorf Round Table” of the Körber Foundation, was involved, along with many other personalities, in reaching an understanding on international problems and issues, and as Executive Vice President of the German Society for Foreign Policy eV, Bonn.
