Michael Peter Zenner
Michael Peter Zenner (born April 9, 1953 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a former German diplomat . Most recently, he was ambassador to Algeria from 2016 to 2018 .
Life
Zenner attended the grammar school on the city wall in Bad Kreuznach. After graduating from high school there in 1972, he began studying German , history and philosophy at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and graduated in 1978 with the first state examination. He then joined the foreign service in 1979 and finished his preparatory service in 1981.

After that he was first deputy head of the economic department at the embassy in Spain as legation secretary and then from 1984 to 1986 as consul permanent representative of the head of the consulate general in Calcutta . He then returned to the Foreign Office in Bonn, where he was first-class Legation Councilor for Afghanistan and Pakistan in the Department for South Asia and then from 1989 to 1992 Counselor and Head of the Economic Department at the Embassy in Mexico .
After his return to the Foreign Office, Zenner was a lecturer in the Legation Council and deputy head of department for external relations of the European Union between 1992 and 1996 and then counselor as well as press spokesman and deputy head of the political department of the permanent representation to the European Union in Brussels. In 2000 he returned to the Foreign Office and was a lecturer in the Legation Council, first class, head of the public relations department in the management staff.
This was followed by a year-long assignment as a senior advisor in the European Parliament's Convention on the Future of Europe , before he was envoy head of the economic department and European representative at the embassy in France from 2003 to 2006 . He then worked as an envoy at the permanent representation to the European Union and from 2007 to 2010 as a communications officer in the Department of Culture and Communication of the Foreign Office in Berlin .
On July 1, 2011 Michael Zenner as the successor of the was retired came Christoph Jessen ambassador to Denmark . He held this position until he was replaced on July 31, 2014 by Claus Robert Krumrei , who was previously responsible for personnel in the Federal Foreign Office.
Zenner, in turn, succeeded Dorothee Janetzke-Wenzel as ambassador to Nigeria in July 2014 . From 2016 until his retirement in 2018 he was ambassador to Algeria .
