Götz Lingenthal

Götz Lingenthal (born May 16, 1953 in Karlsruhe ) is a German diplomat and has been ambassador to Abu Dhabi since 2016 .

Life

After high school in 1974 in Bad Honnef Lingenthal studied from 1974 to 1979 law at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg , the Free University of Berlin , the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn and put 1979 First Legal State examination. He then worked from 1980 to 1983 as a trainee lawyer at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in Hamburg and, after passing the second state examination in law, between 1983 and 1985 he was a clerk at the Federal Ministry for Research and Technology .

1985 Lingenthal entered the Foreign Service , and found after completion of the career examination for the senior civil service in 1986 initially used as a speaker in the Eastern Division of the Political Department of the Foreign Office in Bonn before he then 1987-1989 Head of the Consular Section of the Embassy in Thailand was.

Subsequently, he was cultural advisor at the embassy in Hungary until 1992 and then between 1992 and 1994 advisor in the Chemical Weapons Convention and Biological Weapons Convention in the Department for Disarmament and Arms Control of the Foreign Office. After a subsequent assignment as press officer at the Permanent Mission to NATO in Brussels , Lingenthal was from 1997 to 2001 a consultant in the Department for Fundamental Issues of Disarmament and Arms Control, Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction of the Federal Foreign Office and then from 2001 to 2005 Permanent Representative and Commissioner for the European Union of the Embassy in Portugal .

After he was head of the export control department in the Department of Economics and Sustainable Development at the Federal Foreign Office from 2005 to 2009 , he then went through a one-year language training course.

From 2010 to 2012 Götz Lingenthal was head of the representative office of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Palestinian Autonomous Territories in Ramallah. In this function, he also advocates the promotion of educational institutions and the development of municipal administrative structures in the autonomous areas.

From October 2012 to July 2016 he was the ambassador to Algeria and thus the successor to Jutta Wolke , who in turn became head of the consulate general in Istanbul . Until July 2018 he was Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi.

He is Protestant and has been a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia Heidelberg since 1976 and of the Corps Borussia Bonn since 1977 .
