Eckhard Lübkemeier

Eckhard Lübkemeier (born January 30, 1951 in Bünde ) is a former German political scientist and diplomat who was ambassador to the United Arab Emirates from 2014 to 2016 .

Life

After graduating from high school , Lübkemeier studied political science from 1969 to 1975 and also did a guest study visit at the University of Minnesota between 1971 and 1972 . After completing his studies with a diploma in 1975 , he entered the foreign service and, after completing the career test, found work at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn .

In 1980 he left the diplomatic service and worked as a research assistant in the research institute of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung until 1991, completing his doctorate in 1990 at the Free University of Berlin . Between 1991 and 2000 he was head of foreign policy research at the Research Institute of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and wrote especially while working for the Friedrich Ebert Foundation numerous publications on foreign policy issues, some of which even the English translated were.

In 2000, Lübkemeier returned to the Foreign Service, where he was also the Foreign Office's Special Representative for Conflict Prevention as Head of Unit for European Security and Defense Policy. Subsequently, between 2003 and 2006 he was Deputy Head of the Department for Europe in the Federal Chancellery and then worked for the Science and Politics Foundation (SWP) in Berlin for one year . Between 2007 and 2011 he was the Ambassador's Permanent Representative to the United Kingdom .

From August 2011 to October 8, 2014, Eckhard Lübkemeier was Ambassador to Ireland and thus successor to Busso von Alvensleben , who in turn became head of the Consulate General in New York City . This was followed by his assumption of office in Abu Dhabi , the capital of the United Arab Emirates. He retired on June 30, 2016.
