Busso von Alvensleben (born January 25, 1949 in Dortmund ) is a German diplomat .

Life

Busso von Alvensleben comes from the Wittenmoor branch of the von Alvensleben family and is the son of the Altmark art scholar Udo von Alvensleben . After graduating from school in Salem Castle , Busso von Alvensleben began studying law in 1969 at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and at the Free University of Berlin . After passing the Second State Examination in Law, he worked for Deutsche Bank in 1977 before moving to the foreign service in 1978. For example, from 1982 to 1985 he worked at the German embassy in Nairobi and then at the embassy in Tel Aviv .

In 1994 Busso von Alvensleben became the personal advisor to Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker , from 1998 he was deputy in the Foreign Office and from 2000 head of protocol . From September 2003 to September 2006 he was the German ambassador to Sweden . Afterwards, he was in charge of global issues, humanitarian aid, human rights and international counter-terrorism in the Federal Foreign Office (from summer 2008 supplemented by the field of “civil crisis prevention”). From 2009 to 2011 he was the German ambassador to Ireland .

Busso von Alvensleben was Consul General in New York until July 2014 . The Consulate General's administrative district includes the states of New York , New Jersey , Pennsylvania and Fairfield Counties in Connecticut and Bermuda .
