Peter von Butler (diplomat)

Peter von Butler (born January 24, 1940 in Coburg ; † November 9, 2014 in Heldritt ) was a German diplomat who was most recently ambassador to Belgium .

Life

Peter von Butler joined the Foreign Service and after completing his career test for the higher service found jobs in the headquarters of the Foreign Office and at various missions abroad .

In 2000 he became ambassador to Belgium and held this office until he retired on June 30, 2004. He was then followed by Christoph Jessen , who previously served as ambassador for bilateral relations with the EU member states in the Federal Foreign Office. During his work there, von Butler, like many other German diplomats, was involved in promoting Leipzig as the venue for the 2012 Summer Olympics . In addition, he was a guest at panel discussions such as the Konrad Adenauer Foundation on Belgium and Germany - a partnership with a future on June 7, 2004. Peter von Butler was a Knight of Honor of the Order of St. John .

family

Peter von Butler was the first son of Peter Richard von Butler (1913-2010) and Heinke Iven (1913-2011). He was married to Maria-Christina Pauline Countess von Hatzfeldt-Wildenburg- Dönhoff (born September 28, 1942 in Friedrichstein (East Prussia) ). His wife was a daughter of Heinrich Botho Eugen von Dönhoff (1899–1942), who was married to Dorothea Countess von Hatzfeldt-Wildenburg . His father was August Karl Graf von Dönhoff-Friedrichstein (1845–1920).

Private

After his retirement he supported the Coburg initiative Doctors in the Congo through his contacts . He lived in Schloss Heldritt next to the Heldritt manor, the ancestral home of the von Butler family. His father was Peter Richard von Butler , his uncle is Ruprecht von Butler and his cousin is Carl-Hubertus von Butler .
