Georg Ruprecht von Butler (born December 28, 1924 in Heldritt ) is a former German officer , most recently Major General of the Bundeswehr .

Life

After finishing school, Butler joined the Wehrmacht on April 1, 1944 and served as a gunner and tank commander in the 2nd Panzer Regiment of the 16th Panzer Division and in the 27th Panzer Regiment of the 19th Panzer Division . From May to autumn 1945 he was a Soviet prisoner of war .

Until joining the German Armed Forces on April 1, 1960, he worked as a self-employed farmer .

In the Bundeswehr von Butler belonged to the Panzergrenadier troop and from 1960 to 1964 was platoon leader and later company commander of the heavy Panzergrenadier company of the 302 Panzergrenadier Battalion in Ellwangen . Until 1966 he worked as a teaching officer at the Combat Troop School I in Hammelburg . On October 1, 1966, von Butler became deputy commander and S3 officer, responsible for training and organization, in the 101st Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Ebern . From October 1, 1968 to March 31, 1971, he was appointed commander in the 102nd Panzergrenadier Battalion in Bayreuth . From April 1, 1971 to June 30, 1973 Ruprecht von Butler commanded the 35th Panzer Grenadier Brigade in Hammelburg.

The management assignments were followed by an activity as a department head in the command staff of the Armed Forces I from July 1, 1973 to September 30, 1977 in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn . On October 1, 1977, he took over command of Combat Troop School I (today Infantry School ) in Hammelburg and held it until March 31, 1981. His last use was that of the commander of the military area command V Stuttgart . He retired on March 31, 1985.

Georg Ruprecht von Butler is the fourth son of Carl Moritz Hermann von Butler (1876–1944) and Johanna von Bergmann (1889–1984). He married Marion Berty Countess von Haslingen, known as von Schickfus, who came from a traditional family of officers. Butler is the younger brother of Peter Richard von Butler , a former lieutenant general in the Bundeswehr. After his retirement he lives on the manor Heldritt near Coburg and on the re-acquired Feldeck Castle in the Wartburg district.
