Heldritt is a district of Bad Rodach in the Coburg district , Upper Franconia .

geography

Heldritt is located about 16 kilometers northwest of Coburg and three kilometers northeast of Bad Rodach in a hollow in front of the Long Mountains . The Mühlbach, a source brook of the Rodach , flows through the place.

history

Old traces of settlement have been found in the area of Heldritt; A man's grave from the Younger Bronze Age (around 1300 to 750 BC) was found in the corridor.

The first documented mention of Heldritt goes back to the year 1234, when a "Karolus de Helderit" sold a property in Zilgendorf (today a part of Bad Staffelstein ) against a property in "Mouder" ( Meeder ) and in "Guberstatt" ( Gauerstadt ) exchanged.

The von Heldritt were vassals of the Counts of Henneberg . In addition to two residences (upper and lower castle ) in Heldritt, they also had residences in Bockstadt , Brattendorf , Einöd , Gompertshausen , Goßmannsrod , Harras , Schwarzbach , Tannhausen , Waldsachsen , Weimarschmieden and Weißenbrunn. Over the centuries they made extensive donations to surrounding monasteries.

The Auxiliary Bishop Johann von Heldritt, who died in 1416 and whose grave slab has been preserved in the church of the Dominican monastery in Bamberg , probably also came from the von Heldritt family .

In 1474 the first church was built in Heldritt, a branch church of the Rodach parish. In 1511 the Nikolauskirche became independent under the patronage of Veit von Heldritt. From 1528 Heldritt had a Protestant pastor.

In 1626 and 1630 the plague claimed deaths in Heldritt. Soon after, in 1632, Heldritt was largely destroyed by Bavarian and imperial soldiers . In 1642 Heldritt was almost extinct, a third of the residents had survived and two thirds of the fields were desolate .

After all the residents of the upper castle had died, Adam Koelbel von Geissing bought it in 1662. The von Butler family has owned the upper castle since 1831 .

A new church was built between 1703 and 1705.

In 1790, Erdmann von Heldritt, the last male owner of the lower castle, died. From his six daughters, the community of Heldritt acquired the lower castle and the property belonging to it for 17,000 guilders.

The church was rebuilt from 1847 to 1848 and was essentially given its current appearance. In 1867 it received a new organ.

The gymnastics club (today TSV Heldritt) was founded in 1861, and the Heldritt choral club in 1877. Electric light has been available in Heldritt since February 26, 1923.

The Schubert brewery started production in 1875. It belonged to the inn Zum Braunen Roß and ceased operations in 1902.

The Waldbühne Heldritt has been used since 1930; the Heimatverein founded by Ferdinand Morgenroth in 1950 has been organizing the stage production ever since.

On July 1, 1971, Heldritt merged with Grattstadt to form the municipality of Langenbergen . This was incorporated into Rodach near Coburg on May 1, 1978.

As the largest district of Bad Rodach, Heldritt has around 800 inhabitants.
