history

The Bockstadt monastery courtyard was likely to have been built between the 7th and 12th centuries at the same time as numerous monasteries. Bokestat is mentioned for the first time in a land register from 1340 when Count Heinrich VIII von Henneburg took office .

Earlier assumptions that the place Botolfestat mentioned in the ERPHO document of 802/817 meant Bockstadt do not apply. It is now known that Botelfestat stands for Bodelstadt im Itzgrund .

Bockstadt is first mentioned around 1340 and refers to the Coburg regional history of the Middle Ages in a document book by Johann Adolph von Schultes. This is where Bokestat is mentioned for the first time in the land register of the Coburg rule from 1340. According to the Thuringian State Archives in Meiningen, Bokestat clearly means Bockstadt.

Bockstadt has been part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Harras for around 400 years . The children went to school there too. In 1889 Hermann August von Münchhausen took over the manor in Bockstadt. He established a stud for breeding thoroughbred horses and a castle park with a castle, which was completed in 1904.

In 1924 the place became an independent municipality. Herbartswind was incorporated on April 1, 1974 .

On December 31, 2013, the municipality of Bockstadt was dissolved and incorporated into Eisfeld. Together with its Herbartswind district, the municipality forms the Bockstadt-Herbartswind district of the host city of Eisfeld. In 2015, Bockstadt celebrated the 675th anniversary.
