Ruprecht Horst von Butler

Ruprecht Horst Dietrich Eberhard von Butler (born April 27, 1967 in Coburg ) is a Brigadier General of the Army of the German Armed Forces and since May 31, 2018 Subdivision Manager I in the Armed Forces Management Department in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin.

Military career

Training and first uses

Ruprecht von Butler joined the Tank Reconnaissance Battalion 12 in Ebern in 1986 as a reserve officer candidate . From 1988 to 1989 he briefly studied at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen - Nürnberg , but in 1989 he was re-employed in the Bundeswehr and became a platoon leader in Ebern. From 1991 to 1995 he studied at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg and graduated with a degree in industrial engineering . In the same year he was transferred as an information technology officer (S6) to Panzer Reconnaissance Battalion 13 in Gotha . From 1995 to 1997 von Butler was company commander of the 2nd company in the 14th Panzer Reconnaissance Battalion in Beelitz, and from 1997 to 1999 adjutant of the commanding general of the IV Corps in Potsdam .

Service as a staff officer

In 2001 he completed the 42nd Army General Staff course at the Command Academy in Hamburg. From 2001 to 2002 he was employed as department head G3 ( planning / operations management / training ) and training and as chief of staff in Air Mechanized Brigade 1 in Fritzlar . From 2002 to 2003 von Butler was deployed abroad as part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Kabul , where he was also responsible for planning and operations management (J3) of the Kabul Multinational Brigade . From 2003 to 2004 he completed the British general staff course at the Joint Services Command and Staff College in Watchfield and was then employed as a personnel manager in the personnel office of the Bundeswehr in Cologne until 2007 . In 2009 von Butler was again in Afghanistan , as Chief of Staff of the Provincial Reconstruction Team Feyzabad . From 2009 to 2011 Ruprecht von Butler was a consultant in the planning staff of the Federal Minister of Defense in Berlin , from 2011 to 2013 task group leader Afghanistan in the operational command of the German Armed Forces in Potsdam and from 2013 to 2014 department head P II 2 (individual personnel management and development of officers of the Bundeswehr on B- evaluated posts ) in the personnel department at the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn .

Service as a general

From December 2014 to April 2018 von Butler was in command of the 37th Panzer Grenadier Brigade . In this post he was also appointed Brigadier General. From April 2018, von Butler briefly served as Head of Department J3 / J5 in the Bundeswehr Operations Command in Potsdam, before moving to the BMVg as Sub- Department Head Armed Forces Management I on May 31, 2018.

Private

Ruprecht Horst von Butler is married and has five children. He is the son of Ruprecht von Butler , major general a. D., nephew of Peter von Butler , Lieutenant General ret. D. and the younger brother of Carl-Hubertus von Butler , Lieutenant General ret. D.
