Johannes Dohmes

Johannes Dohmes (* 1940 ) is a former German diplomat who was, among other things, permanent representative to the Council of Europe and most recently ambassador to Denmark .

Life

After graduating from high school , Dohmes studied and joined the Foreign Service in 1965 . After completing the career test for the higher service, he was employed at various missions abroad and at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn . In the course of his activities at the headquarters of the Foreign Office, he worked in 1975 as a first-class Legation Councilor in the State Secretaries' office and was responsible, among other things, for questions of European integration and for international and European economic and monetary policy. In the meantime he was at the embassy in the USA in 1985active. In addition, he was temporarily head of cabinet in the EC Commission and in the European Parliament .

Dohmes was chief of protocol in the Foreign Office until 1996 and was then replaced by Bernhard von der Planitz . In November 1997 he became Ambassador Head of the Permanent Mission to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg .

He then received his accreditation as ambassador to Denmark in 2001 as the successor to Johann Dreher . During this time he was head of the German delegation at the Asia-Europe Meeting in Copenhagen on September 22, 2002 . He held the position of ambassador in Copenhagen until he retired in June 2005 and was then replaced by Gerhard Nourney , who was previously ambassador and head of the Federal Foreign Office's training and further education center .

Since the beginning of 2012, Dohmes has succeeded Weert Börner as Chairman of the Theodor Wiegand Society. Society of Friends of the German Archaeological Institute . In addition, Dohmes, who is a member of the Rotary Club Bonn and the University Club of the University of Bonn , also gives lectures on his many years of experience in the foreign service, for example at the Rotaract Club Bonn in April 2012.

He is a member of the Catholic student union K.St.V. Suevia Köln in KV .
