Gerhard Obermüller

Gerhard "Emton" Obermüller (born September 11, 1912 in Stettin ; † March 10, 1995 in Berlin ) was a German athlete who was particularly successful as a middle-distance runner .

Life

Obermüller passed his Abitur in 1932 at the Free School Community of Wickersdorf . He was considered a pupil of Otto Peltzer . After studying at the German University for Physical Education in Berlin, he worked as a certified sports teacher and as a journalist for the Reichssender Berlin . In the Second World War he was an officer in Soviet captivity. There he joined the National Committee for Free Germany . After the war he became a member of the SED and from 1949 to 1951 was editor-in-chief of Deutscher Sportechos and later editor of Sender Freies Berlin .

Sporting successes

Obermüller was a member of SC Preußen Stettin and in 1929 was Thuringian and Central German champion in the middle distance. He was also a six-time Pomeranian master. His best performance in the 100-meter run was 10.8 s; the over 200 meters 22.5 s. In the long jump he reached 7.09 m.
