Gerhard Ohme

Gerhard Ohme (* 1939 ; † January 10, 2011 in Mössingen ) was a German basketball official .

Life

Ohme was involved in the basketball division of SV 03 Tübingen and also held offices at the district and association level. In 1969 and 1970 as well as 1971 and 1972 he was chairman of the Wuerttemberg Basketball Association and played a key role in the creation of the Baden-Wuerttemberg Basketball Association (BBW) in 1972 , on whose first board he was represented as second deputy chairman. His wife Helga was BBW managing director from 1974.

From the late 1970s onwards, Ohme organized trips to Hungary for Baden-Württemberg national teams . In 1983 he was a member of the planning and implementation committee of the European Youth Championship, which was held in Ludwigsburg  and Tübingen  . In 1984 Ohme initially took up the post of president of the Baden-Württemberg basketball association on a provisional basis, and in the following year, following the election at the association day, he became the full BBW chairman and in this office successor to founding president Burkhard Wildermuth . Ohme, who, among other things, initiated and promoted the establishment of an archive for the Baden-Württemberg basketball association, remained BBW chairman until 1991. At the German Basketball Federation (DBB) he worked as a consultant for popular sports and was a member of the archive commission.

Professionally, he was head of the school and sports department of the city of Tübingen. Ohme died on January 10, 2011 as a result of a long illness. In the obituary of the German Basketball Federation was described as one of its "great pioneers".
