In 1950 Orgass joined both the CDU and the IG Bau-Steine-Erden . From 1953 to 1965 he was a member of the Hamburg citizenship for his party. From 1961 to 1969 he was chairman of the CDU local association Barmbek-Uhlenhorst and after the division into two associations until 1971 of the CDU local association Barmbek. After his mandate in the citizenry, he moved to the German Bundestag. From 1965 to 1976 he entered parliament three times (5th – 7th electoral period) via the list of the CDU Hamburg. At the beginning of 1976 he prevailed in a voting against the member of parliament and previous incumbent Oswald Beck and became chairman of the CDU district association of Alstertal.

After many years of party membership, the new government in Bonn took leave of the CDU in the early 1980s. Looking back, Orgaß said: “After the severe heart attack in 1981, I initially continued, although my doctor urgently advised me not to. But by that time Kohl had already ushered in the 'moral turnaround', in which Blüm was fully involved. I did not want such a policy attached to my name. [...] This letter of resignation is one of the bitterest of my life. But how should I act differently if I wanted to remain true to myself? "
