Oswald Beck (born May 7, 1929 in Kamitz , Opole district ; † October 9, 1995 ) was a German politician and member of the Hamburg citizenship for the CDU .

Live and act

Beck came from Upper Silesia and first attended elementary school and then high school in Bielitz . After moving to Breslau for a short time in 1946 , he came to West Germany as an expellee , where he continued to attend school in a boarding school in Reimlingen . He finished high school at college in Einsiedeln, Switzerland . After stays abroad in France and Sweden, he completed an apprenticeship as a publishing clerk. In 1955 he came to Hamburg, where he worked in the publishing industry and was chairman of the works council in the 1970s.

Beck, who had joined the CDU politically, ran for the district assembly in the Hamburg-Nord district in 1961 when he was living in Barmbek -Nord , but initially missed the move to the local council. In 1963 he moved up for a deceased party friend and was a member of the district assembly until 1966. When the CDU local association Alsterdorf was founded on December 28, 1963 , he was its chairman until 1965. Even after the founding of the CDU district association Alstertal, which was formed in June 1971 in anticipation of the then planned establishment of an eighth Hamburg administrative district and which existed until 1992, he was founding chairman. He lost the chair in early 1976 in a vote against the Bundestag member Gerhard Orgaß . At times he was also deputy state chairman of the CDU social committees , but did not stand for re-election in 1974 for professional reasons.

After Beck, who had politically joined the CDU, ran unsuccessfully for the Hamburg parliament in 1961 , he was a member of the Hamburg state parliament from 1970 to 1978 and was a member of the parliamentary committee from June 1971. There he was mainly involved in environmental issues. In a debate in February 1971, he warned that the Alster was becoming a sewer and criticized the fact that apartments were being built in Wandsbek next to an industrial area, which had led to odor nuisance for the residents. In July 1971 he called for the Bundeswehr to be used to combat environmental threats instead of considering shortening military service. In September 1971 he claimed in the citizenry that Hamburg was the main cause of the Elbe pollution, which was rejected by the SPD. In February 1972 he criticized the dumping of sewage sludge in the North Sea . In December 1973 he spoke out in favor of using "environmental protection officers" in all districts. In November 1974 he spoke out against the construction of the waste incineration plant in Stapelfeld and instead demanded the construction of a waste recycling plant. In March 1976 he spoke out in favor of the aircraft noise protection officer having to submit an annual report on his work. In 1978 he did not apply again for a mandate for the Hamburg state election .

After his time as a member of parliament, he was still active as deputy state chairman of the German-Polish Society until 1980 .

Beck was married and had three children.
