Gerhard Rupprecht

Gerhard Rupprecht (* 29. November 1948 in Nuremberg , † 8. August 2014 at the Roggalspitze in Vorarlberg , Austria ) was a German insurance manager and diploma - mathematician . Rupprecht was Chairman of the Board of Management of Allianz AG in Germany from 1991 to 2010 .

Life

Gerhard Rupprecht passed his Abitur in 1967. From 1969 to 1974 he studied mathematics at the University of Stuttgart . From 1974 to 1978 he worked as a research assistant at the Mathematical Institute of Stuttgart University. In 1978 he received his PhD.

Then Rupprecht worked at SEL and from 1979 at Allianz AG. There he initially worked from 1984 to 1987 as head of the mathematics department. From 1988 Rupprecht headed the tariff and accounting department.

In 1989 he was appointed as a deputy member of the board of Allianz Lebensversicherungs-AG. From October 1991 he was CEO of Allianz. He retired in 2010.

Rupprecht, who was considered an experienced mountaineer, died in an accident while climbing a mountain in the Austrian Alps in August 2014. When climbing the Roggalspitze in the Lechtal Alps , a boulder had loosened and cut the safety rope, which led to the fall into the depths.
