Gerhard Sagerer

Gerhard Sagerer (* 26. May 1956 in Ludwigshafen ) is a German computer scientist , currently rector of the University of Bielefeld and since October 1, 2015 Chairman of the State Rectors' Conference of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW LRK).

Life

Sagerer studied computer science at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and received his doctorate in 1985 in the field of knowledge-based image processing. He was appointed to Bielefeld University in 1990 and has taught applied computer science ever since . Between 1991 and 1993 he was a member of the academic senate, later dean of the technical faculty. In addition, from 2001 to 2007 Sagerer was Vice Rector for Studies and Teaching at Bielefeld University. In 2009 he was appointed rector of the university, succeeding Dieter Timmermann .

Act

Gerhard Sagerer conducts research in the field of image and language understanding, including the techniques of artificial intelligence . He contributed to the establishment of the Research Institute for Cognition and Robotics ( CoR-Lab ) and the Cluster of Excellence “Cognitive Interaction Technology” (CITEC) and is the director and deputy spokesman of these institutions.
