Gerhard Schreeb

Gerhard Schreeb (born July 20, 1930 in Heidesheim , † November 4, 1965 in Mainz ) was a German political scientist .

Life

Gerhard Schreeb was drafted into the Volkssturm in 1944 and became an American prisoner of war. He took an active part in building up the Catholic youth in the diocese of Mainz after 1945 and, after graduating from high school in the summer of 1949, began studying philosophy, history and Catholic theology at the University of Mainz . In 1954 he received his doctorate as a student of Karl Holzamer with a dissertation on "State, Society, Freedom. An examination of the philosophy of the state and social philosophy following contemporary Catholic journalism". Schreeb was a diocesan youth leader in the BDKJ of the Mainz diocese and, after completing his doctorate, took over the position of press officer in the Düsseldorf youth center. In 1956 he became federal leader of the BDKJ, an office which he filled in close cooperation with Prelate Willy Bokler . During this time he was also chairman of the German Federal Youth Association and vice-president of the World Association of Catholic Youth.

His professional career began as a lecturer for social and contemporary history in the academic management and teaching staff at the Bundeswehr School for Internal Leadership in Koblenz. There Schreeb v. a. in the field of resistance research and political education, etc. a. as a speaker at the Political Academy Eichholz. Contacts existed u. a. to Bruno Heck and Bernhard Vogel . In 1964 Schreeb was appointed to a newly created lecturer for political education and didactics at what was then the University of Education in Worms. He worked on a habilitation thesis with Gerhard Möbus . Schreeb died in a car accident. He was married and had three children.
