Gerhard Steidele

Gerhard Steidele (born April 6, 1943 in Munich ) is a German judoka and judo trainer. He is one of the most highly decorated Bavarian judo athletes and has an 8th dan .

Early successes

Gerhard Steidele can look back on a long active judo career. In the years 1964, 1976 and 1977 he became German champion in the lightweight . In addition, Steidele became International German Judo Champion in Bochum in 1977 (class up to 60 kg).

In 1981 Steidele (at the age of 38) again achieved third place at the German Judo Championships.

Gerhard Steidele started for TSV Munich Großhadern during this time . With this club he was also several times German judo team champion.

Later successes

At over 60, Gerhard Steidele was a successful judoka in competition. He started for SCU Germering in the judo district league of the Ib district in Upper Bavaria. With skill and experience, Steidele asserted himself against opponents 40 years younger than himself. His special throwing technique is the inner thigh throw (Uchi-mata).

In 2004, 2005 and 2006 Gerhard Steidele was judo world champion in the age group “60 to 64 years”. In 2005 he also won the first German senior judo championships (ODEM) in Berlin .

Coaching career

Today Gerhard Steidele diploma - coach at several clubs. For a long time he was also a teaching assistant for the Bavarian Judo Association. He is particularly specialized in judo training with older people as well as the kata : Steidele has developed his own form of the kata (Rensa-no-kata).
