Gerhards Spiel und Design is a German wood manufacturer and game publisher in Ransbach-Baumbach . The publishing program of the small publisher mainly consists of handcrafted wooden games, with some classic games, above all, author games in the foreground.

history

Gerhards Spiel und Design comes from a family business that was founded in 1931 and which today's managing director Ludwig Gerhards took over from his father in the third generation as "Clemens Gerhards". As a traditional wood manufacturer in Kannenbäckerland , Gerhards mainly produced everyday objects for the household, later also picture frames and wooden lids for the ceramics industry. Around 2000 he began to make wooden board games from all over the world and later added new games by various game designers to his program. In 2000 he produced the game Turm & Wächter and in 2002 the two classic board games Hasami Shogi and Tablut , from 2003 he published two games by the game designer Reinhold Wittig with Kopernikus and Moguli and in 2004, in addition to Wittig's Baubylon with Samas and Trio Trio, he released two games by Frank Stark on the market. More games by this and other authors followed. In 2007 he started a series of small games known as The Minis . In 2008 Gerhards changed the name of his company to the current name Gerhards Spiel und Design.

In 2007 the game ConHex by Michail Antonow was nominated for the International Gamers Award as one of the best 2-player strategy games. In 2013 the game Mixtour by Dieter Stein was included in the recommendation list of the Game of the Year and received the MinD game award . With Moguli by Reinhold Wittig and Urbino (again Dieter Stein), two more games by Gerhards won the MinD game award and the MinD game tip .
