Gerlinde Dill

Gerlinde Dill (born July 25, 1933 in Vienna ; † December 27, 2008 there ) was an Austrian dancer and choreographer .

Life

Gerlinde Dill studied from 1940 at the ballet school of the Vienna State Opera . In addition, she studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna as well as with educators in Paris and London. She was u. a. Student of Willy Fränzl, Riki Raab and Grete Wiesenthal . In 1949 she became a member of the Vienna State Opera Ballet, where she played numerous solo roles. Parallel to her career as a dancer, she began working as a choreographic assistant, as a rehearsal and training manager and as a teacher at the ballet school of the Vienna State Opera in 1963. In 1980 she was appointed ballet director of the Vienna State Opera under ballet director Gerhard Brunner and was ballet director of the Vienna State Opera Ballet in the 1990/91 season. In the following years she was the ballet director of the Graz Opera under Artistic Director Brunner . She created numerous choreographies for various opera houses and ensembles, opera productions and New Year's concerts. From 1976 to 1995 she created the choreographies for the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic, which was broadcast worldwide by ORF . Her waltz choreographies, in particular, are considered to be style-defining for this genre.

Gerlinde Dill was married to the animal filmmaker and author Werner Fend from 1966 to 1970 . This relationship has two children. There is a daughter from their second marriage.
