Karl Musil (born November 3, 1939 in Vienna ; † October 14, 2013 ) was an Austrian solo dancer . He was the first solo dancer of the Vienna State Opera , head of department 12 ( ballet ) at the Vienna Conservatory and president of the Austrian Dance Council.

Live and act

After four years of attending a Czech elementary school, Musil spent four years at a secondary school in Vienna . From 1947 to 1953 he was ballet eleve at the Vienna State Opera, for three years he was trained at the Helmuth Krauss drama school and had eight years of violin and four years of piano lessons. He also completed a three-year vocal course with Brabbeé. His ballet training took place with Adele Krausenecker , Risa Dirtl , Gordon Hamilton , Georgia Hiden , Harris Plucis , Rene Bon , Matlyn Gavers , Oprea Petrescu , Alex Ursuliak , Carlos Gacio , Richard Adama , Arrol Adison , Andrew Hardie , Nora Kiss , Eduard Caton , Hector Zaraspe , Assaf Messerer .

From 1953 Musil was a member of the Vienna State Opera Ballet. In 1957 he became an entre dancer, in 1958 a solo dancer and in 1965 he obtained the title of first solo dancer (role subject: danseur noble). During these years he danced all the leading roles of the classical subject in the repertoire of the Vienna State Opera. He later switched to the demi-character subject.

He has appeared as a guest member at London's Festival Ballet, Royal Ballet Covent Garden, London. Ballet de France Paris-Janine Charrat, Nice Opera House, Monte Carlo. Chicago Opera Ballet, Harknessballet New York, Ballet Spectacular. Finnish National Ballet, guest tour South America Teatro Colon, Stuttgart Ballet, Hanover Opera House, Kiel and Munich. Brno State Opera, guest performances at Gran Teatre del Liceu , Barcelona. Teatro Fenice, Venice.

The first choreography was created for the Graz Opera ("4 + 4" wind quartet, Gioachino Rossini ; protagonists: Michael Birkmeyer, G. Dirtl, ML Musil, K. Musil). As part of the SPECTACVLVMS: Salome im Elend ( Meinhard Rüdenauer ), Franz von Assisi (Jean Baptiste Lully), Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda ( Claudio Monteverdi ), The Two Crowns ( Gerhard Fromme ), Der Engel sprach ( Paul Kont ) University Church Vienna .

Since 1975, Musil has been a choreographic co-designer of Ash Wednesday: Artist in the Michaelerkirche , Vienna with S. Kirnbauer, M. Birkmeyer, Ch.Musil, L. Scheuermann, Ch.Tichy, J. Seyfried, W. Grascher, Ch.Rovny and E. Téri.

Trivia

After the crash of a jet of the Austrian Armed Forces on his house ( Saab 105 - Incidents ) - whereby he, his wife and his two children suffered burns - his last performance was in 1983 as an angel in the "Josephs-Legende" Richard Strauss / John Neumeier.

Musil is buried in the Neustifter Friedhof (D-3-13) in Vienna.
