Janine Charrat (born July 24, 1924 in Grenoble , † August 29, 2017 in Paris ) was a French ballerina and choreographer .

life and career

Janine Charrat initially worked as a dancer as a partner of Roland Petit in his dance ensemble Les Ballets de Paris de Roland Petit, founded in 1948 . In 1948 she was also responsible for the choreography of the successful world premiere of the ballet "Adame Miroir" by Jean Genet . The music for it was written by Darius Milhaud , the set was by Paul Delvaux and the costumes by Leonor Fini .

Jockel Stahl and Liselotte Köster , among others, danced in performances of their own best-known choreography Abraxas (1949) .

In 1951 she founded her own dance company Ballet de France Paris and created not only popular dance works, but also modern choreographies. The guest members of her ensemble included Karl Musil and Maurice Béjart . She also had a few dance roles in films in the 1950s and early 1960s .

Later she was the first head of the ballet troupe of the Grand Théâtre de Genève from 1962 to 1964 . Her later choreographies included Les Collectionneurs (1972), Offrandes et Hyperprism (1973, music by Edgard Varèse ) and Bach Preludes (1988).
