Lilly Scheuermann

Lilly Scheuermann (born November 13, 1945 in Vienna ) is an Austrian ballet dancer .

Life

Lilly Scheuermann is the daughter of the German author and publisher Walther Scheuermann. She has been married to Christian Tichy , the ballet master of the Vienna State Opera, since 1985 and has been using the double name Lilly Tichy-Scheuermann ever since. A daughter comes from this marriage. Her older daughter Patricia Tichy from her first marriage to Alfons Jacob is also a ballet dancer and is currently employed in John Neumeier's company in Hamburg.

Career

After training as an apprentice at the ballet school of the Austrian Federal Theater from 1955 to 1961, Scheuermann was initially engaged as a choir dancer at the Vienna State Opera . In 1967 she became a solo dancer there, from 1969 she was the first solo dancer in the ensemble and remained so until her retirement in 1990.

She made her first role debuts as a soloist in 1963 as Giselle at the Bregenz Festival and in 1964 as Aurora in Sleeping Beauty at the Vienna State Opera. That year she also appeared in the premiere of Swan Lake in the choreography by Rudolf Nureyev . In this production, in which Nureyev danced with Margot Fonteyn, she was seen as one of the four little swans.

During her three decades of engagement at the Vienna State Opera, she danced numerous classical ballerinas such as Giselle , Odette / Odile, Aurora, Marie and Sylvia, but also shone as an interpreter of literary or mythological figures such as Julia , Chloe , Melisande and Eurydice . Her role creations included roles in works by Aurel von Milloss , Hans van Manen , Jiří Kylián , Rudi van Dantzig , Erich Walter and Jochen Ulrich .

Her partners included the most important dancers of her time such as Rudolf Nurejew, Fernando Bujones and Paolo Bortoluzzi . She danced several times in the choreographies of George Balanchine and also appeared as a guest at the ballet festival by John Neumeier at the Hamburg State Opera .
